Mexican Inn: Best Tostadoes on the Planet - Yankee's call them Chips. The first Mexican Food I ever ate was at this location in 1956. I had no idea there was anything this good in the world. Better than a steak. In the last five years, sometimes at this location they do let their quality slip, but the Mexican Inns on Camp Bowie, E. Lancaster and 121 are the best Tex-Mex Mexican Food I've ever enjoyed. Their Tostadoes (Not Chips) are the best in the west. Their guacamole chalupas with Taco Meat are the best I've found. When I was in Seattle for a year and a year in L.A., the cravings caused me to have dreams where I was eating at a Mexican Inn. Their food is ten times better than Joe T. Garcia's where people take their east coast guests to experience Mexican Food. I've never had Salsa with the "El Chico's" tomato paste flavor at a Mexican Inn. Just last night my wife told me she was craving a Mexican Inn meal as soon as we could get back from Calif. I would like them to offer a choice of Salsa Verde; but something milder than Mrs. Renfro's Salsa Verde. If the food that day was as bad as one of the Dallas "Wanna be a Yankee" reviewers said, the manager should be fired. With my experience with Mexican Inn, I would be up front pounding on the counter and reading them the riot act.

Mexican Inn, a Fort Worth Insitution since 1936. This was my first visit to The Mexican Inn, a Fort Worth institution (but who wants to be an institution). I've always wondered why this place has such a bad reputation with Mexican people and young people. The decor was certainly nice, new, and attractive at the location I went to. The clientele was mostly white haired white people, which is almost always a sure sign that the food will be bland and won't be spicy, and usually a sign that has me heading for the door. The single sided menu let me know right away that there wasn't a lot to choose from.

The chips and salsa arrived first. The chips were cut into long rectangular strips and looked freshly fried. They were quite good. The salsa was a major disappointment though. It was without a doubt, the worst salsa I've ever eaten in my entire life. It tasted like nothing but a blend of tomato sauce and tomato paste. The tangy, overcooked taste of the tomato paste was absolutely horrid. There was nothing fresh, tasty, hot, or Mexican about it.

The food arrived next. Two cheese tamales with chile con carne and one beef tamale with chile con queso. The topping on the beef tamale had a real cloying processed cheese taste. The cheese tamales weren't much better. The rice was ok, but the beans had so much lard they were almost pure white. The best thing about the meal was the warm corn tortillas and the tasty iced tea. This experience was on par to a visit to Panchos Mexican Buffet which is about the the worst Mexican food it is possible to get outside of Taco Bell. Though admittedly, the Panchos salsa is better. I'd say avoid this place as there are far better Mexican food places that are actually Mexican in taste.

Great food that's inexpensive!. Best chips, hot sauce and tortillas in town! I've gone to Mexican Inn for years now, the wait staff does not have a high turnover which is wonderful because they all know you if you're a regular. The menu is limited but everything on it is great!

User review by texasbeerman. Best value in town. Can't beat the prompt service. Excellent chips and salsa. I've never been disappointed while dining here.

The BEST. My family and I have been eating at Mexican Inn Cafe since 1956. Have never been disappointed and now my sons think it is the best. The best chips and salsa in town. The price is right and we are always pleased with our request in every way. Sure was glad to have the restuarant in Bedford. Don't ever change because it has been the best since 1936. I used them to cater at our church and it was great. Thanks for such a great place.

Good food for a good price. I LIVED at Mexican Inn during my high school and college years. The food is inexpensive, under $10 including the the drink. The service is great- most of the time. And the more you go back the more likely you are to have a server that remembers you. Good food, great service...even if the outside of the place does look like a dump.
